Medicare Basics

Compare Benefits

Original Medicare is a Government program for those aged 65 and older.

    • There are two components of Original Medicare. Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B
      • Part A covers hospital expenses, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and home healthcare services.
      • Part B provides outpatient care such as doctor visits, x-rays, and preventative care.
    • Original Medicare covers 80% of medical expenses after your deductible (a deductible is what you have to pay before insurance kicks in, deductibles stink, we know).
  • Medicare Part C is known as Medicare Advantage and is an all-in-one way to receive your benefits.  Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage.

Original Medicare Usually Does Not Cover

– Prescription drugs
– Long term care
– Dental care or dentures
– Vision care
– Hearing care
– Extra benefits provided by Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage (M.A.), also called “Medicare Part C”, is an all-in-one way to receive your
Original Medicare benefits. Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private health insurance
companies. When you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, you will still have Medicare, but you will
get your coverage through the plan you choose, not Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage covers
your Original Medicare benefits and also provides additional benefits such as Dental, Vision, and
Hearing. Many Medicare Advantage plan premiums are $0 and on average are less than $30 per
month.

Why Medicare Advantage
– Receive benefits that include dental, hearing, and vision
– Low Premiums, many starting at $0
– Prescription Drug Coverage included
– Allowances for over the counter drugs, glasses, and hearing aids
– You only need one insurance card
– Keeps your out-of-pocket spending low
– Added benefits like fitness (Silver Sneakers) and much more

Prescription Drug Coverage

– It is important to know that Original Medicare does not cover Prescription Drugs.
– To get coverage for most prescriptions, you need to get a Medicare prescription drug coverage plan.
– You can get prescription drug coverage through most Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug
Plans (MAPD plans) or a stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP).
